Precision strip coils are ultra-thin stainless steel strips produced with very tight tolerances in thickness, width, and surface finish. They are supplied in coil form for industries such as:

Because these coils are thin and slit into narrow widths, they are usually wound onto rolls, with the total length depending on thickness, coil weight, and width.

Typical Coil Length per Roll

The length of precision strip coils per roll varies depending on the strip’s thickness and width:

  • Ultra-thin gauges (0.02 – 0.1 mm):
    Rolls can reach 5,000 – 20,000 meters per coil because of the small thickness.

    • Some buyers request jumbo coils (heavier, longer) to reduce downtime during processing.

    • Others request small coils for easier handling in precision applications.

Let’s take a stainless steel strip with these specifications:

  • Thickness: 0.2 mm

  • Width: 100 mm

  • Coil weight: 1,000 kg

Step 1: Cross-sectional area of strip
0.2 mm × 100 mm = 20 mm² = 0.2 cm²

Step 2: Weight per meter
Volume of 1 m strip = 0.2 cm² × 100 cm = 20 cm³
Weight = 20 cm³ × 7.9 g/cm³ = 158 g (≈ 0.158 kg per meter)
